Research on
Theme-Centered Interaction (TCI)
The Ruth Cohn Institute for TCI – international is committed to the scientific research, documentation and further development of TCI. We network researchers, provide sources and promote international exchange around the intellectual legacy of Ruth C. Cohn.
TCI and science
Theme-Centered-Interaction faces the task of strengthening its place in current scientific discourses.
This raises questions such as:
- How can TCI connect to current professional and scientific discourse in terms of language and content?
- In which publication organs outside the RCI community can research results be made visible?
- How can TCI become known in scientific disciplines in which it is barely anchored?
- Which empirical studies prove the added value of TCI in teaching, practice and organizational development?
- How is Ruth C. Cohn’s estate handled – and how can it be made accessible thematically and methodologically?
These key questions mark the interface between TCI and science and invite further joint work.

Science resort
The Science Department of the Ruth Cohn Institute bundles all activities in the area of research and theory development.
It coordinates projects, maintains contacts with universities and scientific institutions and initiates discourses on the further development of TCI.
At the 2020 General Assembly, Brigitte Mazohl, Emeritus Professor of Austrian History at the University of Innsbruck, was elected to the Management Board for the Science Department (TCI Diploma 2007).
Under her direction, the academic symposium on “Ruth C. Cohn (1912-2010) – The Life and Work of a Courageous Woman” was held at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin from October 20-22, 2022.
She also heads the Scientific Advisory Board, which aims to contribute to a stronger link between TCI and science.

Science prize
The Science Prize was awarded for the first time in May 2024.
The prize is initiated by the Ruth Cohn Foundation for the Promotion of Young Adults and honors the best academic thesis submitted that deals centrally with Theme-Centered Interaction (TCI) according to Ruth C. Cohn.
The Science Prize was first awarded to Felix Oberst on 11.05.2024. In his master’s thesis, Felix Oberst combines Hartmut Rosa’s resonance theory with the theoretical considerations of TCI to create a “resonance pedagogy”.
